Project Summary

Create and develop a User Experience Playbook. This playbook was designed as the company grew quickly and a need to unify the structure of UX and CX rapidly became a priority. By establishing a system for designers to follow we were able to increase productivity and collaboration among different design teams. Not only was this playbook for mid - sr. designers but also for freshers who needed guidance and resources to succeed.

The Challenge

TCS is a global consulting firm with multiple design departments. These departments all serve different sectors of industry and types of customers. They all have one thing in common. Designers who are talented. These designers mostly work in silos and have a hard time gathering resources. What if there was a way to share resources and increase productivity and collaboration?

My Big Plan

The plan is fairly simple

  1. Create a repertoire of design resources for all to share and use

  2. Author a Design Playbook for new and experienced designers

  3. Grow the idea

My Role

I selected a couple designers to collaborate with. In our team we decided how to tackle this challenge and set some goals we wanted to achieve.

Research & Discovery

My team and I used several research methods to understand the key pain points and area of opportunity. These Included;

  • User Interviews

  • Content Audit

  • Resource Gathering

Key Findings

  • Many designers had existing templates they have used for years

  • Some UX artifacts are used almost daily while others are not used at all

  • Not everyone understood the same terminology

  • Files are scattered all of the place

Key Metrics

4 in 5

Designers do not have access to research templates.

25%

Designers do not use any plugins for Figma or other design tools.

Design

Because Figma is used as the main design tool within the company I decided to create the Design System and Playbook there. With SharePoint being the backbone of file storage for templates and other documentation. The layout underwent several iterations in order to create a fresh, clean and easy to read structure.

Key Choices

  • Divided the design assets by the design phases in order to keep structure and consistency

  • Added a summary and tutorials on how to use templates and other tools

  • Implemented extra resources at the end with a most used section.

Documentation

The playbook has a live version in Figma that is being updated weekly, new resources added as needed. There is also a PDF version that has an official release. This was to verify our choices.

Testing

A/B and usability testing was conducted on a range of co workers to verify my decisions. Because I was able to have constant communication we could improve the project as we went. The initial release of V1.0 was extremely successful.

Final Metrics

100%

Happy employees who now have a hub for all their UX CX resources and needs.

300+

300+ designers workflows elevated to the next level of design thinking methodologies.

Conclusion & Learnings

I really enjoyed making something that is truly useful. I am not a primary user on most of the projects I am part of. It brings me joy to hear how my coworkers use this resource and its making their workflow easier. I am continuing to work on this for our V2.0 release in early 2025.
